Vedic
Creation Theory
Modern science and creation of Universe: The big bang
theory is still the closest agreed Modern scientific theory on creation of
the Universe. It left some questions to be answered, and some
observations to be explained. In particular, it was unable to explain what
happened before the big bang.
Now, one could argue that because space and time were created
during the instant of the big bang, there is no such concept as a period of
time or space BEFORE the big bang. Therefore nothing existed before the big
bang. On inspection, this would seem to be a cop-out answer. Surely
something caused the big bang to occur. What was it?
However the speculation of the
Modern calculation of age of Universe
is around 13.7 billion years with an uncertainty of about +/-200 million
years.
From the above information it is clear that the
age of universe according to the Modern scientific calculation (13.7
billion years) is closer to the Vedic calculation (8.4 Billion years).
Modern scientist previously reported 50 billion, then further research
showed 22 billion, then 18 billion and more recent is 13.7 (getting
closer to Vedic 8.432 billion).
Vedic calculation given even the amazingly accurate results to the
precise day and even seconds.
Modern geologists consider the
age of the Earth
to be around 4.54
billion years.
The basic timeline is a 4.6 billion year old Earth, with (very
approximately):
4 billion years of simple cells (prokaryotes),
3 billion years of photosynthesis,
2 billion years of complex cells (eukaryotes),
1 billion years of multicellular life,
600 million years of simple animals,
570 million years of arthropods (ancestors of insects, arachnids and
crustaceans)
550 million years of complex animals
500 million years of fish and proto-amphibians,
475 million years of land plants,
400 million years of insects and seeds,
360 million years of amphibians,
300 million years of reptiles,
200 million years of mammals,
150 million years of birds,
130 million years of flowers,
65 million years since the non-avian dinosaurs died out and
2 million years since humans started looking like they do today.
Puranic calculation
Puranic views assert that
the universe is created, destroyed, and re-created in an eternally
repetitive series of cycles. In Vedic cosmology, a universe endures for
about 4,320,000,000 years (one day of Brahma, the creator or kalpa) and is
then destroyed by fire or water elements. That is 4.32 Billion years which
is one daylight of Brahma. After this Brahma rests for one night which is
also 4.32 billion years. So one full daylight and night-time of Brahma
is 8.64 billion years.
Brahma's sleeping night process is
named as pralaya (Cataclysm),
repeats for 100 Brahma years (311 trillion human years) that represents
Brahma's lifespan. According to these puranic views, we are currently
believed to be in the 51st year of the present Brahma and so about 155
trillion years have elapsed since he was born as Brahma. After Brahma's
'death', it is necessary that another 100 Brahma years pass until he is
reborn and the whole creation begins anew. This process is repeated again
and again, forever. Universe is infinite.
Duration of Brahma’s day
One day of Brahma is of duration equivalent to 1000 mahayugas. His night is
equally long. At the beginning of every day creation starts. At the end of
the day all that was created merge in the Absolute and Brahma ‘sleeps’ as it
were. 360 such days and nights make one year of Brahma. According to the
Puranas, He has spent 50 years like this and this day is the first day in
his fifty-first year!

One day of Brahma = 14 manvantaras + 15 manvantara twilights
(because there is an extra manvantara - twilight at the end of all the 14
manvantaras)
= 14 x 71 mahayugas + 15 x 4 l
= 994 mahayugas + 60 l
= 994 mahayugas + 6 mahayugas
= 1000 mahayugas
= 1000 x10 l = 4,320,000,000 human years.
One ‘second’ of Brahma
= 4,320,000,000 / 12x60x60
= 100,000 human years

Only the
Vedic Time
tradition has used huge mathematical
figures for calculating the age, proving the point that it is a
scientific tradition and not religious or theological
traditions which calculate
not more than
6,000 to 10,000 years.
In the previous page we saw that
Brahma's life span is 311 trillion human years. According to
the Puranas, we are currently in the 51st year of the present Brahma and
so about 155 trillion years have elapsed since he was born as Brahma.
So the Universe is symbolized as Brahma and his
one day is divided into 14 periods called Manvantara. Each manvantara
is of duration 306,720,000 human years. We are currently in the Seventh
Manvantara called
Vaivasvata.

One day of Brahma.
We are in the 7th manvantara (total 14). Each manvantara is divided into
71 maha-yugas. We are in the 28th maha-yuga of this manvantara. Each
maha-yuga is divided into 4 yugas shown below for the current maha-yuga.
